Situated in the heart of Devon, Exeter’s unique charm, location, and outstanding university attract students in their droves. Not only has Exeter repeatedly been named among the best places to live in the UK, but it also boasts an affordable cost of living, a low crime rate and an abundance of green space.
Today, this vibrant city is home to a diverse population who enjoy an abundance of eateries, independent shops, bars, boutiques and cafés. Beneath the surface, however, is a long and rich cultural heritage that stretches back to before the arrival of the Romans. Over 2,000 years of the city’s history can be explored in Exeter’s Underground Passages, Red Coat Guided Tours and the Royal Albert Museum. Exeter's location means you're close to beautiful Devon beaches and countryside, but also only one hour from Bristol and two from London by train.
We've been helping Exeter students sort their next student home since 2021. UniHomes' goal is to make student living stress-free; that's why we work with a wide range of letting agents so we can showcase the best student accommodation in Exeter from across the market in one convenient platform. Whether you're after a student house, apartment or private halls, you can see your options in one place here.
With UniHomes, utility bills are already included in the price displayed - when you move in, we'll set you up with utility suppliers so you can get on with enjoying uni!
It's no surprise that Exeter city centre is consistently the city's most popular student area. The centre is both vibrant and offers a range of student accommodation options - you'll find the modern private halls and apartments you'd expect in a city centre, but also larger student houses suitable for groups. The next most searched-for areas include Pennsylvania and Mount Pleasant due to their proximity to campus.
In the 2026-27 letting season, five-bed houses were the most popular property size, followed by four-beds and six-beds. Our Exeter students are a sociable bunch!
Exeter's cultural influences run deep. JK Rowling studied at Exeter Uni, and residents claim a range of Harry Potter locations are inspired by local landmarks, including Gryffindor Common Room (Marldon Hall) and Diagon Alley (Gandy Street).
Another Exeter alumnus, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, wrote the band's most famous song, "Creep", about his romantic life as a student. Yorke also DJ'd at The Lemongrove, an on-campus nightclub.
