Student Accommodation in Plymouth

With its idyllic harbour and gorgeous green spaces, the stunning port city of Plymouth in Devon attracts tens of thousands of students every year. Built on a history of seafaring and shipbuilding, this city has undergone rapid transformation in recent years. Today, Plymouth is a vibrant hub for students and young professionals seeking a green coastal city to call home.

Described by students as a chill place with an incredibly diverse community, this coastal city is increasingly drawing in soon-to-be students from across the UK and beyond to make the most of what Plymouth has to offer. A city steeped in culture, there's more to Plymouth than meets the eye. With more cobbled streets than anywhere else in England (and some dating back to the 16th century!), the charm of Plymouth is impossible to ignore.

Known as Britain’s Ocean City, Plymouth is home to two universities: the University of Plymouth and Plymouth Marjon University (previously Saint Mark and Saint John). With around 30,000 students, the University of Plymouth is one of the largest in the UK, and around 2,500 students study at Marjon. Wherever you choose to study, you'll be blessed with the best of both worlds: a beautiful city on the coast that is awash with arts, entertainment, sports and culture.

Student accommodation in Plymouth isn’t hard to come by either. Whether you’re looking for a small flat near campus or a spacious property in the city centre, there’s plenty of student homes in Plymouth to suit your needs.

Being a Student in Plymouth

Characterised by its student community, the city of Plymouth has earned a reputation for its inclusive culture and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're from the UK or further afield, the friendliness of the locals and helpfulness of the campus staff should make you feel right at home.

An abundance of activities keeps students in Plymouth entertained - whether it’s a nature trail along the rugged Devon coastline or a pub crawl finished by a club night in the city centre. For a different kind of day out, make like the seafarers of Plymouth’s past and hop on a water taxi to Mount Batten, the Barbican, Sutton Harbour or Cawsand. The world is your oyster!

Home to a long list of fun-filled attractions (including the UK’s largest aquarium), you’ll never be short on things to do in Plymouth. The city boasts brilliant museums, including the Box - a centre for art and cultural preservation where you can marvel at the history of the city.

The moment you descend at Plymouth’s railway station, you’ll be met with all the high-street heavyweight supermarkets to keep your grocery supply stocked during the semester. At Drake Circus Shopping Centre, students can eat, drink and shop to their heart’s content. At night, Britain’s Ocean City is bursting with a vibrant atmosphere, and students can take advantage of the diverse range of pubs, bars and clubs to make the most of a buzzing live music scene.

The city itself lies within an area of rich ecological diversity. Said to be 40% green, you’ll never be too far from an adventure in the wild – be it at the nearby Dartmoor National Park or the Devon and Cornwall coast. Meanwhile. Plymouth also plays host to a buzzing city centre that’s brimming with bars, cafés, shops, live music venues, supermarkets and hotspots for student hangouts.
