The University of Warwick was established in 1965, and is a member of the prestigious Russell Group. It’s located on the outskirts of Coventry three miles from the city centre, between the West Midlands and Warwickshire. The university prides itself on achieving consistently high domestic university rankings, and is highly rated for its research capabilities.
The main site is made up of three campuses, all within walking distance of each other. Situated on the outskirts of Coventry and surrounded by acres of beautiful countryside, the University of Warwick is a popular choice for students across the world. Inviting 26,000 students every year, the areas surrounding the university are full of student hubs.
The University of Warwick’s campus takes up almost three square kilometres, which are home to the university’s 32 academic departments. These are spread across three core faculties: Arts; Science, Engineering and Medicine; and Social Sciences.
Warwick University is not short of accommodation options for both undergraduate students and postgraduate students. Whether you choose to live in university managed halls on campus or you’re looking for privately rented accommodation to share with your friends.
Due to its location on the outskirts of the city of Coventry, students who want to be at the heart of Coventry city centre will need to travel a bit further than those living in the suburbs. However, the trade-off is a livelier location, close to the city centre clubs, restaurants and main shopping centre. There are plenty of 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom student apartments in the local area, which are ideal if you want a cosy place to yourself or to share with a partner.
Student accommodation at the University of Warwick is mostly found towards the west of Coventry. These areas are ideal for shorter travel times to campus. Areas like Lower Coundon, Spon End, Chapelfields and Earlsdon are incredibly popular residential areas for students with plenty going on locally. With regular bus routes to both the city centre and the university campus, these locations are the most popular student locations for Warwick's students. There’s plenty of larger houses here too, with 3-bedroom, 4-bedroom and larger houses set up to suit bigger groups.
If you’re after something a little different, many students studying at the University of Warwick choose to live in Leamington Spa. This is a small town to the south of Coventry, connected to the uni campus by regular bus routes. Rents here are much cheaper than living closer to the city, but the student accommodation provides a different flavour of living.
The University of Warwick is well located with excellent transport links so you’ll be able to commute to and from campus easily as well as explore cities nearby such as Birmingham, Coventry, Leamington Spa, Kenilworth and Canley. Plus, if you want to regularly travel home during your time at Warwick, you’ll be able to do so easily. Being right in the heart of the country will give you access to the whole of the UK and London is only an hour away so you’ll have no excuse not to break away from Warwick for a while!
Warwick’s diverse focus extends to its other buildings, including the huge Warwick Arts Centre venue, which is the largest of its kind in the UK outside of London. The Horticultural Research Centre in Wellesbourne is another noteworthy spot.
Students living in Warwick can take advantage of the city’s culture, rich heritage, fun and exciting nightlife, museums, galleries, sports centres, theatres and music halls and it is a city that blends the old with the new. In addition, Warwick is full of green spaces that you can enjoy when you’re not studying.
If you’re looking for a good night out, Warwick has plenty of live music venues, clubs and bars for you to try out.
