For those seeking somewhere to live that’s right in the middle of both the campus and the town, Greenstead is a vibrant residential area with a predominantly student population.

Alternatively, check out our range of properties in Old Heath, where you’ll benefit from being close to the campus and a stone’s throw from many a sprawling nature reserve.

Life on Campus

Situated in the 200-acre Wivenhoe Park, this multicultural hub is always buzzing with things to do. Take part in an acting workshop, join in on an open mic or try your hand at live poetry at the Lakeside Theatre - where students and alumni of the University of Essex come together with professional theatre practitioners to put on live shows and meet like-minded people.

Looking to work on your fitness? From drop-in sessions to monthly classes, a high-tech gym and a myriad of courts and pitches, the Colchester Campus has everything you need to stay active.

Catch a screening of the latest releases at Cine 10, the campus cinema, where you’ll benefit from the same production quality of high street theatres - just without the expensive price tag. Looking to blow off some steam after a day of studying? You don’t have to leave campus to have a great night out; simply gather your mates and make your way to Sub Zero, the campus’ on-site club, which boasts a calendar packed with themed nights and a diverse range of DJs for all music tastes.

It’s hard to get bored at this campus, but if you are looking to make new friends with similar interests, why not sign up to one of the Students' Union's 165 sports clubs and societies? There’s something here for everyone – whether you love embarrassingly bad films, are an avid cheese-lover or a keen lacrosse player.

Of course, there will always be time for kicking back and relaxing, and the location of the Colchester Campus means you won’t have to go far to unwind. Whether you need some me-time or want to chill out with your housemates, the lakeside makes for a gorgeous location for a picnic, barbecue or quiet study sesh. Just remember to clean up once you’re done – after all, you’re sharing the space with a thriving ecosystem of the cutest ducklings, bunnies and squirrels.
