Why use UniHomes to find Sheffield student accommodation?

We’ve been working with Sheffield students since our business first opened its doors in 2015, so it’s safe to say that here at UniHomes, we know Sheffield better than anyone. It certainly doesn’t hurt that our founders went to university here, too. In fact, it was the founders’ very own experiences with finding student lets in Sheffield that encouraged them to start UniHomes in the first place, all with the aim of paring down the house-hunting experience and ensuring that students no longer have to face the same challenges that Phil, Luca and Brad (the brains behind UniHomes) once did.

Sheffield really has been at the core of our business since well before day one, so whether you’re looking for a shared student house, a private flat or studio, or purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), you’ll be able to search it, secure it and sort it right here with the large selection of Sheffield student houses featured on our website.

Sheffield student housing market: trends explained

Considering its fab location in relation to the city centre and the University of Sheffield, it's no surprise that Crookesmoor is the most popular area by miles for Sheffield student accommodation ( when we say by miles, we mean it – there’s more than twice the demand for student homes in Crookesmoor than for runner-up Broomhill!).

And it’s easy to see why Crookesmoor takes the crown. It’s on the doorstep of some of the city’s best and biggest parks, there’s an abundance of amenities (featuring local shops and cosy pubs), and it has a great mix of student housing, from 1-bedroom flats up to 6-bed student homes… What's not to love?

Explore just a little further and you’ll find loads of other options for student accommodation in Sheffield. The Ecclesall Road area and close-by Sharrow are super popular amongst students looking for 3- and 4-bed houses, and it’s no wonder why; these pockets are are full of independent shops, restaurants, and bars, and will never see you short of a plan for a night out with friends thanks to popular pubs like The Nursery Tavern and The Sheaf Island Wetherspoon.

Wherever you end up, both the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University are easy to access via foot, with bus routes and trams getting you from A to B if you live further away.

Student life in Sheffield

For centuries, Sheffield (or rather, the Steel City) has been at the forefront of innovation and industry, giving us stainless steel and world-dominating music from the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Bring Me the Horizon. It's no wonder Sheffielders are so proud of their city, something made palpable by the hundreds of conservation efforts over the years that have made it so that Sheffield's cultural heritage hasn’t been left by the wayside. From the restorations of ex-factories like the Cutlery Works, to the upkeep of medieval monoliths like the Cathedral in the heart of the city, Sheffield has been lovingly tended to over the years by the very people who are proud to call the city home.

So, whether you're out at bars like Factory Floor and Church Temple of Fun (owned by Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes) in the industrial Kelham Island or hanging around the Antiques Quarter and the nearby 1920s Picture House on Abbeydale Road, you're guaranteed to always be surrounded by masses and masses of history and an immense sense of community.

Preservation efforts don’t just stop at buildings, though; Sheffield holds the title of ‘The UK’s greenest city’, thanks to the 250+ public parks that are sprawled around the city. With acres and acres of green land, it’s hardly surprising that there are more trees per person here than in any other city in Europe.

Love the appeal of endless greenery? The Peak District is just a short bus or train ride away, offering gorgeous walks and spectacular views in places like Padley Gorge and Bamford Edge. If you’re more of a thrill seeker than a hiker, the Peaks offer caving in Castleton and abseiling at Millers Dale Bridge. It’s also definitely worth going for an explore to discover villages like Bakewell, Ashford in the Water, and Eyam (the village with a tragic and spooky plague history).

Did you know?

Sheffield has its very own condiment, making it almost illegal to have anything else on your full English in the city. Henderson’s Relish, or Hendo’s, once you’ve lived here for a while, goes great with pretty much anything, and the original factory is being restored by the Uni of Sheffield with rumours that it could be turned into a pub. And before you ask, of course, someone has made a Hendo’s beer. We’ll leave it up to you to decide if that’s a terrible step too far.

"Super reliable company for bills and student house searching! I used UniHomes for my 2nd year house in Sheffield. The website was super easy to use, and compare different properties and book viewings. There was no worry about transferring money, and it was a fixed cost every month, which really helped with budgeting!"

Nathan says:

"Best services for university housing. I was with UniHomes in Leeds for a year while I was studying there, and the service provided was perfect. Now I'm currently looking for a house in Sheffield since moving university, and the experience has been fast alongside great customer service. Could not recommend them enough!"
