Pontypridd student housing market: trends explained

Most Pontypridd student accommodation can be found in Treforest, which is home to one of the University of South Wales’ Pontypridd campuses (and is just over the river from the other). Treforest is largely a quiet student community that’s dominated by UoSW’s buildings, including the library and its selection of student cafés and eateries.

In the 2026-27 letting season, four-bed student houses were the most popular, closely followed by five-bed properties. Keep an eye on these before they go!

That said, Cardiff is only a 25-min train ride away for those nights when you do fancy a nightclub or two, or even just a day out shopping with your mates.

Still, Pontypridd's own streets have lots of quirky things to discover. Hoffi Coffee is a student favourite when it comes to coffee (and, unexpectedly, pizza), and loads of students enjoy going to Barinis Bar for good pub grub. The Pontypridd Museum is great if you want to find out about the area's history, and make sure you check out Market Street for both independent and big-brand stores (not to mention the Pontypridd Market).

Heading into the countryside is a favourite pastime of many Pontypridd students, and is arguably one of Pontypridd’s biggest pulls. Eglwysilan Mountain is a short hike away from Pontypridd student housing, and is full of trails with the most incredible views. For even more adventure, you can catch a bus up to Wales’ beloved Brecon Beacons.
